I have a belief – that you get what you expect.
If you expect to get a table at the cafe, then you'll most likely do that you need to make that happen.
If you expect that clients will come to you then you'll probably show up so that they know where to find you.
If you don't expect any of that, then in turn you'll probably not show up and do what's required.
That's what we're talking about on today's episode – expecting more for yourself so that you can get those results.
Key takeaways from this episode:
1️⃣ Expectations shape our actions: What we believe to be possible directly influences the actions we take. By setting high expectations for ourselves and our businesses, we are more likely to take the necessary steps to achieve our goals.
2️⃣ Experiment with belief: If you find yourself lacking full belief in a particular outcome, treat it as an experiment. Act as if you already believe it's possible and take deliberate, focused actions aligned with that belief. You may be surprised by the positive results this mindset shift can bring.
3️⃣ Make time for strategic thinking: Schedule regular thinking time to reflect on your business, your goals, and what you expect for your future. This intentional planning and strategising will help you generate momentum, creativity, and new possibilities.

Suz Chadwick [00:00:38]:
It was cup weekend, which is a horse race for those who don't know it. But we went away for 4 days down the coast, and it was just deliciously relaxing. And the weather was amazing. So it's Wednesday as I'm recording this, and this is my 1st day back in the office. So, feeling very chilled. Feeling very chilled, but wanting to get an episode out for you so that you don't miss 1. Yeah? And this week, today, I wanna talk about You get what you expect. So we're gonna be talking about really looking at what you believe You want for yourself, what you believe you can get for yourself, what you're expecting for yourself, and the ways in which to think about this because I think that it makes a huge difference to your success or failure and to what you achieve and what you don't achieve.
Suz Chadwick [00:01:38]:
And, obviously, you know, I've been talking a lot about productivity and getting things done and getting out of procrasti faffing and all the rest of it. So before we start this episode, before we dive in, I Just wanna remind you that Club Done, our founding members offer for November as This episode is going live, is available. So if you head to sue chadwick.comforward/clubdone, all one word, c l u b d o n e. And come and join us, yeah, if you want coaching and accountability and co working, and planning sessions so that it's not about learning more. It's about doing the work. And I actually think that the believing is part of the doing. So you know I'm always gonna talk about mindset when it comes to productivity and getting the work done because you've gotta believe And you've gotta know that what you're doing is what you need to do in order to move forward. So I wanted to quickly let you know about that.
Suz Chadwick [00:02:45]:
But listen, let's dive into this week's episode. So guys, I do have to let you know that I just Quoted this entire podcast, and then it crashed, and I lost it. So this is gonna be 2nd time around. I have To say that the 1st time around was pretty explosive and amazing. So let's see how we go 2nd time around. Jeez. Alright. So today, we're talking about getting what you expect.
Suz Chadwick [00:03:17]:
And I shared a story with my subscribers, drivers, and I shared a story on Instagram as well about something that happened with my hubby and I a couple of weeks ago. So, we have our day dates after we go grocery shopping, and there's a little bagel place that we love to go to. And so we were walking down the street, and And there's a section where people collect their takeaway coffees, outside of The Bagel Shop, And it was very busy. My husband's automatic reaction was, well, there's no way we're gonna get a table. It's way too busy. And I said, well, don't be negative. Will manifest a table to which he replied, shock, horror. The you know that manifestation isn't real, and I almost stopped in my tracks.
Suz Chadwick [00:04:10]:
I just thought, have we just met? Do you not know me at Or what is even happening here? So, obviously, being very placid person that I am, I I was like, I'll show you. I'll show you about manifestation. So, anyway, he waited outside the bagel shop. I went in. I gave out The girl said, are you eating in or taking away? And I said, obviously, eating in because I'm manifesting a table. And she said, okay. I said, there's no tables, but there will be 1. And she said, okay.
Suz Chadwick [00:04:44]:
Great. I'll put your name down. So I stood off to the side where I could still see all the tables, and within about 5 minutes, like, 3 tables became available. There was, like, 1 outside and 2 inside. So I very graciously said to my husband, where would you wanna sit, inside or outside? Because all of the tables are available to us. And then our coffee and our bagels came, so we had barely waited any time. So, you know, that was a fun breakfast where It was it was a little bit chilly. It was a little bit icy between us.
Suz Chadwick [00:05:19]:
But, anyway, it was it was funny. But it was It's really interesting because it did get me thinking that if I'd gone up to the counter, ordered, and said takeaway and gone and waited outside, then I wouldn't have expected, obviously, to get a table. I would not have Seeing who was moving, my name would not have been down on the list. We just would have waited at the window like everybody else And we would have got our coffee and our bagels, and we would have left. And we wouldn't have been able to sit and have a nice breakfast and just chill on a Saturday morning. Yeah? So It's the whole thing of you get what you expect. And I've talked about this before when it comes to getting rock star car parks or, You know, just whatever whether it's a seat in a restaurant or whatever it might be, whatever you expect means that you are going to then take the actions that follow that expectation. And it kinda comes back to the model, yeah, what I've talked about from Brooke Castillo.
Suz Chadwick [00:06:23]:
So the circumstance is that, there's no tables available. The thought I have is that, obviously, there will be 1 because I expect that there will be 1 for me. My husband's thought is there's not gonna be any available to us. So then he feels a bit frustrated. I feel optimistic. That's the feeling. The action is that he stands outside. My action is that I tell them that we're gonna be sitting in, and I'm waiting for a table.
Suz Chadwick [00:06:53]:
And then the result I get is that I get the table. The result he gets, Because he's with me is that he gets to the table, but otherwise, he would have walked away. So I just really want to talk today about What are you expecting for yourself? What are you expecting for your business? What are you expecting when it comes to making money? What are you expecting when it comes to getting clients. Because if you expect, if you think that there are no clients available, that nobody's spending money, that Everything is very hard. And it's not to say that things aren't hard. I'm not being, like, in fairyland where everything's rosy and amazing. The question is is that if you believe for you that things are possible, that things are available, that things are there For the taking, you will act in a very different way than if you don't believe that. And so I want you to start to think about all the different areas of your business and what your beliefs are.
Suz Chadwick [00:07:56]:
One of the things that we did in BBA recently was a mindset mirror, which was really taking a look at all Different areas of your business and then writing down, like, what is my mindset around it? What are my beliefs around it? Because sometimes we Don't actually know what we believe or we don't know what we're thinking about something until we take the time to actually sit down and work through it and understand what it is that we're thinking and then catching ourselves in that thought. Because right now, you might be thinking, no, Sue's like, I definitely want clients, and I definitely wanna be making more money. And I'm like, well, that's great, But do you believe that it's possible for you? And if you did believe that it's possible for you, what would the actions be that you're taking right now? And do you need to shift your beliefs in order for you to take better action? So for example, if I believe that I'm getting it on 50 podcasts, then that belief is going to fuel me Talking about it on the podcast, getting my VA to pitch to more podcasts, getting in groups and saying, hey. If you're looking for a podcast guest, let me know. Yeah. If I want to double the number of listeners on the podcast, then the actions I might take is that I might do more engagement ads on Facebook and Instagram to the podcast. And I might share more episodes. I might, you know, do 2 episodes a week, etcetera, those sorts of things.
Suz Chadwick [00:09:29]:
If I wanna double my list in the next year, then I'm going to do more content upgrades on the podcast. I might run more ads to lead magnets. If I didn't believe that those things were possible, then I would not take the action to actually achieve them. Because when we believe that something is possible, then it creates an energy. Yeah. Once again, the thought is this is possible. Getting getting 50 new clients is possible. Therefore, the feeling is excitement.
Suz Chadwick [00:09:59]:
It's like, let's go. It's determination. The action is that now I'm gonna be showing up, and I'm gonna be sharing incredible content. I'm going to be, you know, going live. I'm going to be getting into other people's communities. I'm gonna be sharing on different platforms and distributing what I have in more places. And so by taking all the action because I believe it's possible, I'm now gonna get the results that I want. And so We just have to ask ourselves if we're not where we wanna be, if we're not getting the results that we wanna get, what thoughts are we stuck Where are we stuck that's meaning that we're not actually creating the momentum, the energy, the magnetism, The things that are gonna drive the results that we actually want.
Suz Chadwick [00:10:50]:
And so it's really interesting because When I was at Tony Robbins, I had there was a couple that was sitting in front of me. They were a bit older than me. They they've got kids. They lived in Adelaide. He was a leader in an engineering firm. She's a life coach. And so during 1 lunchtime, I said to him, because my husband's a scientist. He's r and d, research and development.
Suz Chadwick [00:11:16]:
You know, he's not into woo At all, he's very science based, and so it's always interesting when we have these sorts of conversations. But I kind of saw a little bit of them in my relationship. And so I said to him, what made you decide to come to Tony Robbins? And he said, well, I had watched my wife build a business, and I've she's talked about this sort of stuff, you know, personal development for a long time. And so when she invited me to come and she said to me, I really didn't think he would say yes. He's like, I thought I thought as a man of engineering, as a man of science, I'm gonna treat this like an experiment. I don't really believe in all of this, but I think that there must be something to it. So let me go and test it. So he just said, I decided to come.
Suz Chadwick [00:12:05]:
No preconceived ideas that this is mumbo jumbo or whatever else. He said, I just decided I'm gonna fully Immerse myself. I'm gonna show up. I'm going to do the work, and I'm going to commit to the process of the 4 days, and then I'm going to review. And then I'm gonna, like, you know, assess my experiment. I'm gonna assess my experience. I'm gonna assess whether it worked or not. And he said, so just by me going into that, he's like, it's been really incredible.
Suz Chadwick [00:12:38]:
Like, I've actually He's broken through a lot of, you know, things that I believe to be true that are not true, all of those sorts of things. And I just found it Really, really interesting that he shared that because I think that that is something that we can do. When you are maybe not in a 100% belief, This is probably one time. It's the only time I'm gonna say fake it till you make it with yourself, which is where you're like, I want to believe that 50 clients are possible for me. We're just gonna take that number. We're gonna run with it. I wanna believe that 50 It's a possible for me. Now I don't fully believe it just yet, but I'm going to act as if I do believe it.
Suz Chadwick [00:13:21]:
Because if I act as if I do believe it, what will the actions, what's the energy, what's the momentum, what's The thoughts that I would have if I did believe that this was possible. And so if you are in a situation where you're like, Sue, I actually I don't fully believe it. I don't fully believe or expect that I will get this outcome that I want. I just want you to step back For a second and say, let's play and let's experiment. If I was experimenting and I did believe this, Now what are all the things that I would do? Just like I said to you before, like, if I wanted to, you know, speak on 50 podcasts, asked, and I believe that that was possible, then I'm just like, oh my gosh. Like, all of these things are what I get I'm gonna do. I'm gonna bring so much energy to I'm gonna show up in such a bigger way. I'm gonna have so many people that are inviting me to be on the podcast, and I'm going to continue to talk about it.
Suz Chadwick [00:14:20]:
I'm gonna do Countdown. I'm gonna have goals. I'm gonna, like, fully, like, focus on all the energy around achieving what it is that I want and I Expect for myself. Because what's the alternative? The alternative is that the alternative is that you're like, don't believe that's possible for me. And so I'm just gonna sit here, and I'm gonna wallow in the disappointment that I'm creating for myself before I'm actually doing or achieving anything, and just be like, that's not possible. So what's the point? Maybe I should, like, go and do something And I just think that we have to really be self aware and catch ourselves when we We are not achieving our goals, and we're potentially not really showing up in the way that's required. You might kind of be like, I've tried everything. And you know that once you say that that, like, it's all over because you've obviously not tried everything.
Suz Chadwick [00:15:25]:
But that's the thought that you're having. And so there's always something else you can do. There's always something different to try. There's always, like, more energy, and I just wanna make sure that I'm not confusing you, is that energy does not mean hustle. Hustling is just that you're trying to outwork your lack of belief, where you're just like, I'm just gonna keep working in the hope that something that something works and that something happens. But when you are focused in a very deliberate way that, yes, I can achieve this, and now I'm going to be Very specific in the things that I do and how I'm gonna do them and how I'm gonna show up, what I'm gonna believe, what I'm gonna say so that I can attract more of the Clients that I want, it's a very different energy. It doesn't mean you have to work yourself into the ground. It's about being really smart with what you do.
Suz Chadwick [00:16:17]:
Even I was even saying to a client the other day, she was talking about Instagram and, you know, really focusing on Instagram and getting more stories out and all the rest of it. And I just said, let's just stop. Let's take a step back. What Is it that you want to achieve? Right now, we wanna, like, double the number of visits coming to the website. Because if we've got conversions on the website, then, you know, the hypothesis is that the more people we get coming to the website To buy the product, the more likely that you're gonna get sales. So instead of just focusing on one thing and and believing that this is the only way that you're gonna able to make sales or get clients. The question is, what is it that we're trying to do here? What is it that we want? We want more sales, so then we need to get more people to come to the website. So what are the things that we could do that's really smart? Because she's got young, like, a baby, baby kids.
Suz Chadwick [00:17:13]:
Yeah. She's at home. She's Trying to juggle it all. What's a really smart way for us to do this so that we can get more eyeballs on what you're doing? Yeah. But it's not Costing you loads more time, energy, effort, hassle. And so it's just stepping back, and it's starting to take a look at, do I believe this is possible for me. If it is, what is a smart way for me to do this? How do I wanna show up? How can I use what I have to be able to get the results that I And so those are just some things that I think that especially as we start to come into, like, a new financial year, Really looking at what you expect for yourself, what you expect when it comes to your Clients, what you expect when it comes to the revenue that you're generating, what you expect when it comes to the people that you have around you? I just want you to think about whether it's really at the level that you want it to be at. And then if you believed that you Expect that as in I believe that that's totally what I expect.
Suz Chadwick [00:18:16]:
I believe that that's available to me. Then What other things could you think about doing that would help you to achieve those goals? And, you know, I'm such a big planner. Like, I'm just like, the more that you sit and you plan out what it is that you're trying to do and you think through it you know, one of the things we're talking about in the Amplify Mastermind this morning was the thinking time. It's like, you know, thinking it's meta. Thinking that you don't have time to think, thinking that you don't have time for strategic thinking. And it's not about having time. It's about making time. It's about actually making the time to think through your business, making the time to think through what you want, what you Expect how you're gonna do that.
Suz Chadwick [00:19:03]:
How you're gonna put that energy out into the world. Yeah. Because at the end of the day, If you think that it's not available to you, then sorry to say, it won't be available to you. It's like my hubby. He's such a pessimist, And I'm such an optimist. But at the end of every time we finish a season of something on Netflix, he's like, oh, well, that's it. There's nothing else to watch. And my thought is there's always more.
Suz Chadwick [00:19:29]:
There's always more to watch. There's so many shows that we don't even know about that are available to us. And so then I go When I take a look at previews and all the rest of it until I find a show, and then recently, we found a show that's got, like, 10 seasons and 22 episodes per season. I'm like, we're never gonna run out of things to watch. But I think the point is is that you've really gotta think about how can I Always be looking at what is possible? How can I look at the, you know, the optimistic side of things and think This is gonna be fun? This is gonna be exciting. Let me try new ways. Let me think of new ways of doing things because I expect that this is available to me. So now I'm gonna play, and I'm experiment, and I'm gonna have fun working out the best ways to do it so that I bring momentum and energy and creativity and possibility to everything that I'm doing.
Suz Chadwick [00:20:25]:
Because at the end of the day, Hey. What are we saying today? You get what you expect. You get what you expect. And so I want you to expect amazing things for yourself. I want you to expect great things for yourself. I want you to expect The things that you have maybe thought in the past were impossible, I want you to think and believe that they are possible for you now. That's it for this week. Got any questions? Let me know if you enjoyed this episode.
Suz Chadwick [00:20:55]:
Make sure you share it. Obviously, leave a review. That helps us. I would so appreciate it If you could do that. And I'm excited for more episodes coming your way before the end of the year. Yeah? And I'll speak to you
