So you want to be a speaker? Well today I'm sharing some of the key things that I think you need to do or be thinking about when it comes to building your brand as a speaker, getting speaking gigs and building your credibility.
If you want to known as a speaker then you have to claim the title! Key tips include:
- Call yourself a speaker. Put it on your social platforms, in your bio and tell people that you speak.
- Create a page on your website so that it's official and if someone wants to find out more about you as a speakers then there is something they can read more about.
- Get photos and put together a speakers reel if you have the content to do so. It's always worth asking the event organiser, if you're speaking for someone else if they can take a few photos for you if they don't have an official photographer.
- Connect with people who run events, but don't put the hard word on them, just let them know that you're a speaker and you cover a specific topic and if they are interested or looking for someone then here is more information – and give them your speakers page
- Get testimonials from people at the event or the event organiser as social proof that you're a great speaker is super important!
- If you're working with corporates or anyone make sure you're clear on what you want to be paid. You don't want to be on the phone with someone and they ask how much you cost and you have no idea. I have a daily and 1/2 daily rate that work from then all out of pocket expenses like parking, flights, accommodation, printing etc. Saying that, for the right conference and the right person I sometimes don't charge for larger conference if I'm in front of my ideal clients or it's a good brand building decision.
