Today's podcast is a super important one. A few years ago I focused on belief systems and how our beliefs around what is possible control a lot of our outcomes and whether we achieve our goals.
It was one of the practices that I know helped me consistently grow my business and revenue and self-confidence a few years ago and it's something I use in my planning every year.
It seems so simple but it's a practice that you have to work on every day.
Belief Ladders.
What's a belief ladder?
It's something I've created to help me understand the levels of belief required to achieve what I want.
When you write down your goal I want you to ask yourself these aligning questions:
What is possible when it comes to this goal?
What is available to me?
What do I believe about myself when it comes to this goal?
What do I believe about others and how that impacts how I work and show up?
The belief I'm working on right now is that…
I can grow my biz the way I want without creating anything new and reach the financial and biz goals I want.
The belief then needs to keep going – that everything I have is of value and increases in value as I build, grow and refine it.
The next level belief is, I will find exceptional platinum clients who are exactly who I want to work with.
Next belief. Those clients will tell their network and we can grow organically with platinum clients.
Next belief, all of this is possible and I am patient when it comes to achieving my goals. This is not a race and I can grow at a sustainable pace.
So as you start planning (at any time), ask yourself.
What do I need to believe and shift to do the things?
It's great to add this question to your planning!
Have you done this before?
You can do this with everything in your business. What's the goal? What actions and tactics do I need to take and then what beliefs do I need to have to achieve these?
It's a game changer!

Suzanne Chadwick 04:17
So belief ladders, so a while ago, I was listening to if you know I love Brooke Castillo from the Life Coaching school, and Stacy Bateman as well. And they talk a lot about beliefs. So your own belief in what is possible for you. And as I like to do I love listening to these incredible people. And then I really take a look at what does that look like for me? How do I adapt it to the way that I work to what I believe so when I talk about thought leadership as well. It's my lived experience, my beliefs, collective research which is what I hear from them, my own thoughts on it as well. And then how I bring that all together to create something that is unique. So you can always go check out my episode on building your thought leadership, which is episode 129 on the podcast, building your personal brand with unique thought leadership. And then the other one is why your thought leadership matters, which is episode 67. So you can go to the show notes, and you'll be able to link to both of those episodes. But what I've really thought about and how I've adapted it to the way that I work, is that when we are looking to do something, so say you've got a goal, the way that we've been taught to do it is that we define what the goal is. So for example, I want to earn a certain amount of money, I want to build a course I want to become a speaker, whatever the goal is, we take a look at, okay, I'm going to go after that thing, how am I going to do it, and we get really tactical about it. And as you would know, if you've been here on the podcast for a long time with me, I'm a strategy goal, I come from a strategy background. And so it's all about what are the tactics that I'm going to implement here in order to be able to achieve that goal. So you might, you know, create a speaker's page, you might create a rate as a speaker, you might start reaching out to people who have got communities or podcasts in order to start to become known to them as somebody who speaks on the topic that you speak about. But what I have found is that a lot of times, unbeknownst to us, or unbeknown to you, because I know it now, which is why I'm sharing it with you is that you have these beliefs that sit under the surface. And a lot of times those beliefs sabotage you. And so you don't even know that it's happening a lot of the time. If you're in a position where you have got goals, you have wanted to do something, and you've not done it. And it's because of fear. And because you feel like you don't know how to do it, or whatever the reasons might be the things that that are sabotaging you are these beliefs that sit under the surface that control your actions, they decide what you do. But the thing is, is that I think that they're silent killers, they're silent killers of your dreams. They're silent killers of your goals. Because a lot of times, you don't know that it's happening. And so I wanted to give you an example of how I use my belief ladders, and how you can use them this year as well, I actually think that this is one of the most powerful tools that you can have in your business toolkit. Yeah. So it's really about looking at what is possible, what is available, what I believe about myself, what I believe about others, and how that impacts how I work and show up. So if I was to say to you, did you know that it's possible for you to have a six figure business for you to have a seven figure business? Whatever it is that that you want to do? It's possible for you. But automatically, you might think right now, as I said, that says, No, that's not possible for me. It's fine. I don't want that anyway, like, but it's not possible for me, like I just am going to have this little business. And that's also fine. By the way, I'm just going to have this little business and that that works for me. But my question to you is, are you staying small? Or are you staying where you are right now,
Suzanne Chadwick 09:02
because you don't believe that there are bigger possibilities for you. And when you don't believe that something is possible for you, then what you're really saying it's not available to me. It's available to other people, but it's not available to me. And so I'd really love you to sit down and have a think about what do I think is possible for me. So when it comes to my business, a little exercise that you can do, when it comes to my business, what do I believe is possible for my business? It could be what's possible, right now this year, it could be what's possible in the next three years, five years, 10 years, what is possible for you? And it's not to say that you might go after that. It's not to say that you won't work towards that maybe you will, maybe you won't, but I just want you to start to stretch, your belief and your thinking to what you believe is possible. Because if you will believe that it's possible, then you will believe that it's available. Yeah. So I really want you to start to think about when it comes to my business, what do I think is possible for me, when it comes to my relationships, what do I think is possible for me, when it comes to how much I earn, what do we think is possible and available to me. And then when you take a look at that, and you can put all different things about in your life, yeah, your children, your home, your business, anything, your health goals, whatever is important to you, I want you to write it down. And then I want you to write down what you believe is possible, and what is available to you. The next thing with that is I want you to think about what you believe about yourself. So you will have beliefs about what you do, when you are potentially going after this goal. And so our mind is a very clever little thing. What it does is that it always goes to past performance in order to predict future performance. And this is where the work comes in. So for example, let's say that you've tried something before, I'm just gonna use a really common thing, like trying to lose weight. So you have maybe tried to lose weight before, maybe you've tried to get up and exercise every day, something, whatever it is, maybe you've tried to journal every day, whatever you decide. And so your brain will go, wow, have we done that before? And the brain will say, No, we tried it once. But it didn't really work. So I'm not really sure whether we should try it again. And so this is where your doubt starts to come in, is that potentially if you've tried something in the past, and it maybe didn't work, the way that you wanted to wanted it to, your brain is now automatically going to go there. And it's going to believe that this is not possible for you.
Suzanne Chadwick 12:03
It's going to believe that it's not available to you. Because we did it, we tried it, it just didn't work. So maybe let's not try that again. And so now you've got to start to change those beliefs, and start to practice that those beliefs that actually, this is totally possible for you, it is 100% available to you. And the way that I'm going to change the way that I think about it, because then we go after a goal. And we don't actually focus on what we're thinking about it, how we're feeling about it, what our motivators are, what we're what our beliefs are about it. And so we fail again, because we haven't actively tried to change the way that we're thinking about it. And so what I want you to do is write down what your goal is, what's possible, what's available, what you believe, about yourself, and whether do I believe that this is something that I can do? And if you're saying, if your brain automatically says, No, it's not something we can do, you could then say, what is the belief that I need in order for this to happen in order for me to get that result? What belief do I need? What actions do I need to take, but what beliefs need to support that as well? And so really start to go so much deeper, when it comes to how you're going to execute on your goals and achieve what you want. But you might do it superficially, where you're just looking at the tactics and the actions, tactics, actions, metrics. Yeah, that's how I that's how I used to plan. But now I plan with Priority tactics and actions, metrics that are going to help me, but what do I need to believe in do here? What do I need to practice on a daily basis when it comes to that belief? What belief is going to take me to a level of success? And so it's not only about what we believe about ourselves, but it's what I believe about others and how that impacts how I work and show up. So this could be the whole what people think. Yeah. So what are you not doing? Because you're worried about what somebody else is gonna think about what it is you're doing? So maybe you want to create a course. But you know, somebody who does something similar? And it's like, oh, I don't want them to think that I'm copying them. I don't want them to think that, you know, I, I'm trying to do this. And whilst that's their area of expertise, and obviously there's room for a soul, there's room for us all to talk about things in different ways. And so really sit down and ask yourself, if you have a goal and you've not achieved it. Do you believe it's possible? Do you believe it's available to you What do I believe about myself when it comes to that goal? And what do I believe about others that could be stopping me from achieving that goal? Yeah. So I believe that I can only be successful if I lose the weight, but but my brain is telling me we've tried that before and it didn't work. So let's not try again. Therefore, I believe that I can't be successful because I have attached my weight to my success. I'm just like, random. Yeah, random examples. So I want you to really think about how this is all interwoven. How all of these things that you think that are sitting under the surface that you do not acknowledge, potentially a lot of the time is actually controlling the outcomes that you have the results that you get. So if you really think about what are the results that I want, you have to attach the right beliefs to those results. So I'm going to give you another example. And it's a belief that I'm working on right now is, I can grow my business the way I want without creating anything new and reach the financial and business goals that I want as well. So for example, I might be like, oh, you know, he, he hands, maybe let's create something new. But I have been constantly working on the belief that people who got his seven figures usually deal with one or two, one or two programmes, because that's the space that I'm in. Yeah, I don't need to create anything new,
Suzanne Chadwick 16:40
I don't need to have a lot of things. I want to make what I've got amazing. And so I know that I can grow my business the way that I want without creating new products and services. So that is a belief that I have, it's a belief I'm working on. And so that drives what I'm now focusing on what my goals are going to be what the actions are that I'm going to take because I believe that, yeah, the next belief on that is the belief that, and you've got to keep going with this, which is why it's called a belief ladder. The belief on the next rung is that everything I have is a value, and increases in value as I build, grow and refine it. So sometimes we might have something we're like, Oh, I've had it for a while, like maybe I need something new. But as I talked to my Amplify clients, about your platinum programmes, your platinum offers your platinum work, is the best work you can bring to life. Yeah, it's like your highest level thinking, it is the best that you've got. It is you constantly challenging your own thinking and the way that you work constantly being in touch with what's happening in the market, in your particular space, and being a leader stepping up and being a leader in that space as well. So for me, it's really believing that I can grow my business the way I want without creating anything new. And that everything I have is a value and increases in value as I build grow and refine it. Yeah. So the next belief under that, and you'll see all this in the show notes as well, if you want to go check it out, is I will find exceptional platinum clients who are exactly who I want to work with. That's my belief, I'm not trying to work with everybody. I want to work with people who are doers, who are like they want to see, like a boss. They want to know their numbers, they want to be thought leaders, they want to have an impact, like I know and the belief is, is that I can grow my business without creating something new that everything I have is a value and will grow in value. And by doing that, I will find exceptional platinum clients who are exactly who I want to work with. And the next belief after that is that those clients will tell them network and we can grow organically with platinum clients. So that belief that goes with that is that I don't always need to be doing paid advertising, that my thought leadership, my speaking my books, my network of clients, and the results that they get, will organically grow my business with other platinum clients. And then the final belief that I'll share with you on this particular ladder, and so you can create different ladders for different goals of a different things you want to achieve is that all of this is possible and I am patient when it comes to achieving my goals. This is not a race and I can grow at a sustainable pace. And then I'll tell you why I added that belief in because there is so much pressure around us to constantly be going bigger to be growing at a rapid pace. That if you're not hitting Six figures, multiple six figures, seven figures like you know what is happening. And so I really have to look at myself in my business and say, you know, something Sue's like we're doing really well, the revenue in the business is great, the profit in the business is good, you know, we can always improve on it. But you are patient, you will create great things that will have a positive impact. And we will achieve the goals that we want. It's, I'm just running my own race. Don't constantly be looking at other people and thinking, Well, why aren't I there yet? Why is that not happened for me yet. Just be patient. And keep doing the things that you want to do that you love to do that support the clients that you want to work with? And then constantly be looking at? What is it that I'm really trying to do here?
Suzanne Chadwick 20:55
What are the actions I need to take? And what are the beliefs I need to cultivate, practice and embed, so that I don't have the silent killer of goals and dreams bubbling under the surface that I am unaware of. And when you are not achieving the goals that you want, I am going to tell you now, if you are not aware of this, you have that silent dream killer bubbling under the surface, and you have to look at it you have to see and understand what is it that I believe is possible for myself. Because if you don't believe that the goal that you're going after is possible and available to you. I'm just going to tell you now you're not going to achieve it. So what do you need to do in order for that to change? And it's active work on ourselves is active work on our thoughts, our beliefs, our mindset? Yeah, even in the selling process, it's like, when I'm speaking about Brand Builders Academy to you, I have seen the result, I am so passionate about the work that we do. I know what works, I know that it gets clients results, I know that my clients love it, I know that it is me bringing my best work to life. And there's so much more that I already know I want to do with it. And so the belief that it is the best work that I have, that I am doing exactly what I want to do to have the positive impact means that when I have goals around it, I'm achieving those goals. Yeah. And the thing is, is that if you don't believe that what you have is great, if you don't believe that you can make better if you don't believe that success is available to you through what you have right now. Um, you know, I know we go through testing phases, and we test and we try different things through the new stage of business. But even as we go into later stages of business, and we might change our business models and go from one on one, through to courses, programmes consulting, whatever it might be, you have to believe that that's possible for you to be able to change the way that you work the way that you earn money. And so how are you going to do that? It could take you know, it could take a year or two for that to happen. It could take a year or two for you to identify your self sabotaging beliefs that you might have right now, for you to cultivate new ones, for you to put the wheels in motion for how you're going to do it. But at the end of the day, it's up to you to make sure that you believe that it's possible and available to you. Yeah. And that your self concept of I am a woman who believes in x, y and z in order to achieve my goals that you also see in that as well. What kind of woman or man or person are you? Are you somebody who so I was talking to my amplify clients about this this morning. My self concept is I am a woman who has difficult conversations so that I don't see in discomfort for weeks on end, but that I nip things in the bud. I am a woman who sets boundaries. I am a woman who says no to things that do not align with my vision and where I want to be and what I want to do. I'm a woman who takes action. I am a woman who manages her beliefs and sees them for what they are. Yeah. So I really want you to start to think about how you are managing not only your goals, but also what it is that is helping you to facilitate the success of those goals.
Suzanne Chadwick 25:02
So there's a beat in there. Yeah, there's a beat in there for you to chew. Think about, we're gonna be talking more about this in Brand Builders Academy this year, too. So if you want to do the deeper work around it, then definitely check it out. I'm so passionate about this, I'm so passionate about talking about how we really identify the things that are not visible. And the things that are underlying that really stop us from achieving what it is that we want, because I want you to be a bold and powerful voice in the world. Yeah, I want you to have the impact that you want to have. I want you to create incredible and amazing products and services, in your business that your clients love and rave about. And that you can become that leader who can really take them from where they are now to where they want to be. But you know, it's something you have to believe that it is possible and available to you. You have to believe in yourself, you have to believe that success is there for the taking, if you want it, and I had somebody that I was speaking to last year, at the end of last year to say, I want this, but I don't believe that I can be successful. And I don't believe that it's available to me. Yeah, and I'm scared to do it. And so I know that there are so many people out there who feel the same way. I just want to let you know that you're not alone, that you can change this, that you can decide what the next stage of your consciousness your mindset looks like. And that is such a critical part of business. Yeah, if you want to be successful in business, whatever success looks like for you, then you've not only got to build a great brand that attracts the clients that you want, you've not only got to understand how to market what you have, how to manage your money, how to manage your time and be the CEO, how to have great systems. Yeah, so that you've got more time in your business. But you got to manage your beliefs and your mindset and what you know to be available to you. Because you can have all the goals in the world, but you won't be able to achieve them unless you believe that it's possible for you. So we're gonna leave it there for this week. I hope that you got something out of this. I'd love to know your thoughts on it. Sometimes we just have to sit and think through things and you know, really take the time to understand what that looks like for us as well. But have an amazing week. I'm so glad that you are here with me this week and I can't wait to share what's coming up on the podcast in the next few weeks as well. But if you do want to check out Brand Builders Academy just head to suzchadwick.com forward slash BBA. And I would love to see you on the inside. It's gonna be epic.
