So you spend all this time on your social media, but do you know how to measure your social media activity and key channels?

What exactly is it doing? Is it helping you get more traffic and get more customers?

If you're not sure then it's time to start measuring! Remember – if you can't measure it, you can't manage it!

In this week's power play I'm sharing just a couple of ways you can ensure you're able to measure the effort you're putting into your social channels.

 

 

So you may have a campaign or something that you've boosted on your channel and you're spending money on it.  Facebook has been known to inflate some it's stats so it's also good to check what activity or traffic is coming from the channel that you're using.

Below I've shared a snapshot in time on my site.  If you head to Acquisition in your Google Analytics dashboard then Social and Network Referrals, you'll be able to see where your website traffic is coming from.  I use Facebook as one of my primary platforms to share my content so I get a lot of traffic from there.  I also use Twitter and then I commend on other peoples blogs using Disqus and get a bit of traffic from there.

I also use Google plus, Pinterest and Instagram and all of these channels send traffic to my site.  As I've automated a lot of it, it means that I spend a few hours at the beginning of the month and then it pushes out my content during that month. I'm on there engaging with people as well which is was my third tip in last weeks power play.

You want to make sure you're sharing content that is engaging your audience and this is one of the ways you can see if what you're posting and sharing is resonating with your audience.

Another place to check are your insights directly in Facebook to see which posts got the most organic traffic and then you can hopefully post more of that type of content to continue to build the engagement with your audience.  As I've said before, Video at the moment provides the highest organic engagement x 10 if not more.  When I post certain images I may get 25 views and then when I post a video, the majority of the time it reaches all of my page likers – now that's a big reason to use video if you've found your organic reach has dropped.
