Brand Builder's Lab Podcast Colour Coded

I loved this conversation with Bec and Sal from Colour Coded, a Melbourne based Ethical Fashion Label.  I meet them at a long lunch I hosted in 2018 and loved their story.

As a teacher and disability worker they started their business out of passion to create something unique. While growing up, twin sisters Sal and Bec would fondly be called “colour-coded” by their mum, referring to Sal’s brown hair, brown eyes and Bec’s blonde hair, blue eyes.

Sal and Bec grew up in a family of four generations of dressmakers. Inspired by her mum and Nana, who was also a dressmaker, Sal developed a love of fashion design and textiles. From her Nana’s big colourful scarf collection and purple retro shag carpet, to her bright knitted jumpers, Sal was drawn to bold patterns and colours. Bec shares a love of colour, but her passion lies in creating something new and exciting on their own, and always learning along the way.

Moreover, their shared love for the environment and the outdoors inspired Sal and Bec to develop a clothing line that not only looks and feels good, but has minimal environmental impact.

Sal and Bec founded Colour Coded with the intention of creating bold, distinctive clothing that has a positive impact on the community and the environment. Each collection is designed and made in Melbourne, uses natural fibres, and is produced in limited runs.

Their vision is to create pieces that can be worn through different moments in women’s lives. Garments that move with you.
