Suz Chadwick [00:00:30]:
We are diving into a bit of mindset work because I have been having a lot of conversations and it's also something I have to manage for myself every day on a regular basis. And what I'm hearing right now is people are feeling overwhelmed, not sure where to focus. Feeling like comparison is coming up quite a bit. I had quite a few comments the other day on Instagram about this and I just thought, let's. Let's have a conversation. That's what the podcast is all about. How do we have more conversations about the things that we need right now in this moment? So that's what we're going to be talking about today. Let's dive into today's episode.
Suz Chadwick [00:01:12]:
So let's start off with focus. I think that when the market changes, when things shift, it's really easy to feel like things are not where they're supposed to be. Like you've been used to things happening a certain way, you've got a certain flow to the way that you work, and then the market shifts and changes and you feel a bit, oh, I'm going to use the word discombobulated. And I was having a conversation with a client last week, and this is what we were talking about. She just said, I just don't know where to focus. I feel really disjointed. I feel like what I'm doing isn't working, and I think that's one of the catalysts. And so now I don't really know what to do that is going to work.
Suz Chadwick [00:01:59]:
But the thing is, is that a few different things aren't working. So that's really thrown her. And I totally get it. I get that things are changing and you've got to work out how to change with it, but you've also got to kind of stay in your own lane and you've got to be able to hone in on what you want to be doing right now. And the way to do that is really go back to your goals and your focus. So what is the one thing that you want to happen right now? Because I think that when we're kind of scrambling. It feels like you're in a ball pit, you know, where you've just got lots of balls around you. You're trying to figure out which ball you're supposed to grab, like, what's going to work, what's going to move you forward, and it can feel overwhelming like that.
Suz Chadwick [00:02:45]:
I don't know. That's the visual I get, is like a being in a ball pit. And so I just want you to think about, okay, if you are in the ball pit and you've got a goal, all of the balls that you need to focus on are red. So now you've got something that you are working towards. So I want you to think about what is the one core goal, one or two goals that you've got right now that you can start working towards? And once you know what that goal is and you've realigned yourself with that goal, then you can start to go back to the foundations of what it is you do, how you do it, what you talk about, what is going to help you to achieve that goal. And I have needed to do this for myself in recent times where I was like, okay, I want to, for example, relaunch, amplify. I love the way that it's worked in the past, but I kind of want to re energize it, do something different. And so now the focus is, how do we relaunch? What does that look like? Because otherwise it can just feel like there's lots of balls.
Suz Chadwick [00:03:50]:
So now my red ball is amplify. Okay, so what do we need to do with that? Well, we need to update the content, maybe rebuild some of it. We need to realign the way that it's going to work. Having a meeting with my team to talk through it so that we know what we're focusing on, what our timelines are, what it is that we're trying to achieve. And so whenever you feel lost, I just really want to encourage you to go back to your core, go back to the roots, go back to the goal, so that you can kind of almost clear the decks. I'm such a visual person. I'm like, wipe, wipe the whiteboard clean, and just put your goal in the center now and say, okay, for the next three months, six months, whatever it is, the next one month, the next 30 days, this is what we're focusing on now. What do I need to do? And in order to reach that goal, what do I need to be talking about? And so I think that because the online space is so noisy and there's so much going on.
Suz Chadwick [00:04:55]:
It can be really easy to lose your focus when it comes to what you're talking about. But if you come back to your goal, if you come back to the one thing that you really want to achieve in the next 30, 60, 90 days, then that's gonna. That's gonna help you to align your messaging, because now I'm like, okay, well, if amplified 2.0 is what we're focusing on and we're realigning the way that we deliver it, we're realigning our content, then I'm gonna run a workshop all about how to build a confidently, bold brand. And so all of my content online, I really want to be talking about all the different elements of that. And so now I've got my core, I've got my anchor of what I'm focusing on. I've got my tasks as to what needs to happen in the next 30 days or whatever timeframe you've got, and I've got my content. This is what I need to be talking about. And so that just helps you to feel a bit more anchored in what it is that you're doing now.
Suz Chadwick [00:06:00]:
Comparison is a really big one that I'm hearing from clients and my community, too, once again, because we're online and we're scrolling, and it's so hard not to. I feel like it's become such a habit now for so many people that the scroll is just like what we do. I mean, I find when I'm standing and making my coffee in the morning, I'm scrolling through. And so I think you've got to decide whether that's helpful or not. Is that entertaining and it's fine and it doesn't get in your head, or do you find that it really, like, messes you up for the day where you're like, I am scrambling here. And it's really interesting because there's a child psychologist, we think that it's just for kids. There's a child psychologist in New York, and she was saying that she's had loads of kids being brought to her with what they think is ADHD symptoms. And can I just say, I'm just sharing a story.
Suz Chadwick [00:06:58]:
I don't know anything about ADHD, so don't come for me on this. But she was just saying in kids, what she's done is that she's given them, like, an eight week online detox. And when the kids have come back, they. Those symptoms are no longer there. For some of them, I don't know what the exact number are. But it got me thinking about myself. Yeah. Where I was just thinking, okay, am I finding it hard to focus? Am I finding it hard to concentrate? Am I finding it hard to really hone in on what it is I need to be doing now? And I know so for those of you, because I know some of my audience have been diagnosed with ADHD, I know that I don't have ADHD.
Suz Chadwick [00:07:43]:
So my question to myself is, as somebody who has always been able to focus, when I'm not able to focus, what are the behaviors? What are the things that I'm doing that are disrupting my ability to focus and really think about what I need to be doing now? And so I've kind of given myself a few mornings where I'm just like, okay, I'm not going to be scrolling. I'm not going to get online. I'm just going to come to my desk and I'm going to start working. And almost like an experiment for myself, do I feel more chilled, more focused, more able to get on with my day? Because I know exactly what I need to be doing. And so that's been really interesting, too, because what happens is that we're not just scrolling, but we're now scrolling. We're looking at other people, we're seeing what they're doing. We're seeing what they're talking about. To us, sometimes it might feel like, oh, there.
Suz Chadwick [00:08:34]:
It just seems so easy for them to do. And now we're in comparison, and now we're in this, like, spinning drama of comparison. And that also affects our ability to focus and do the work that we really want to do. So I just want you to remember that we get to control our environment. We get to control what we consume and what we do on the day to day. And so it's not about not scrolling, but it's about picking the time that you do it. So at night, usually when my hubby's watching the news or something, I will get on TikTok, and that's entertainment for me. But in the morning, it's actually, like, not good for me.
Suz Chadwick [00:09:22]:
And so now I know that I try not to do it. Yeah. So more often than not, I'll just get on with my day. Won't start my day like getting into the apps, etcetera. And so, number one, come back to your goal. Decide what color ball you're focusing on. Clean the whiteboard, put that in the center, and then start to build out your 30, 60, 90 day strategy for what you're going to be doing. The second thing is really know your own behavior and know what helps you and what doesn't help you and what helps you to show up and create and work and do what it is that's required so that you can achieve what it is that you want.
Suz Chadwick [00:10:04]:
Because a lot of times, or sometimes when we feel like things aren't really working for us, it can feel like a bit of a scramble. But what you want to do is if you're saying, okay, this is not working for me, so what am I going to decide to do and actually settling on something and then testing it. Now I, as an extrovert and as a speaker, and as somebody who processes, as I talk, sitting and just like creating content, doing the podcast, creating videos, et cetera, without looking at anything else, just talking through what it is that I wanna share with my audience. And I really want you to come back to this as well. How am I serving my audience? How am I sharing what it is that I'm here to share with them that is gonna help to ground you as well, so that you can make sure that you're like, yep, this is what I wanna be known for, your personal brand. This is what I want my audience to experience when they come to me. These are the things that I want to tell them so that we can have this relationship. So I also want to encourage you to start to maybe think about that one client so that you can realign back to serving that particular person in what it is that you're doing.
Suz Chadwick [00:11:31]:
And so that's something that's really helped me as well, is where I'm just like, okay, I'm going to be talking to this person, Sarah, and the content I'm creating, because I know what Sarah's problems are, I know what she's struggling with, I know that she's in comparison, I know that she feels, like, overwhelmed, she feels like she's got all the millions of balls around her and she doesn't really know which one to focus on. And so I'm going to speak to her and talk to her about how she builds her personal brand, how she gets the foundations of her business in place and creates what she wants to create for herself. So think about how you can do that in a really simple way. And can I just say, this is something that you can always come back to. This is something that you can always come back to. Any time that you're feeling overwhelmed or like you're, you don't have the direction that you're looking for, and you can use this framework or these steps to be able to refocus and realign to the things that are important to you right now and the things that you want to achieve in your business. So I wanted to share this. It's a short episode.
Suz Chadwick [00:12:44]:
Look at me with my short episodes, short episode today. But I think that if you are feeling any of this, hopefully that is going to help you to come back to your anchor, your purpose, what you're here to do, who you're here to serve, the goal that you want to achieve. Speaking to that one person and cutting out the rest of the noise that is happening right now, both in your mind and out in the market. And then just always be testing and taking a look and saying, okay, I'm going to do this now. How did it work? Is it working for me? Is there anything I need to shift? But always doing it from a place of calm, like in control. I know what it is I need to do and I'm just going to do step by step and not from a place of frantic overwhelm. Not sure where to go, not sure what to do. Spinning drama.
Suz Chadwick [00:13:37]:
