Are you feeling overwhelmed, not sure where to focus, and dealing with a bit of comparison syndrome?

You’re certainly not alone! In this week's episode of the Brand Builders Lab Podcast, I share some mindset strategies I use daily to help refocus and get out of that overwhelming state. This episode is packed with insights on how to get clear on your goals, realign with your mission, and be kinder to yourself while navigating the noisy online world. Let's dive in!

Focus When the Market Changes

So, here's the thing. When the market shifts, it’s super easy to feel like everything is out of whack. Your usual way of doing things doesn't seem to work, and you’re left feeling discombobulated. Yep, I said it, discombobulated! I was talking with a client recently, and she was feeling like everything she was doing just wasn’t clicking.

When this happens, it’s essential to go back to your core goals. Ask yourself, what is the ONE thing you want to achieve right now? When you’re in that metaphorical ball pit, too many choices can leave you paralyzed. So, think of your goal as that red ball in the ball pit. Focus solely on that.

For example, if my red ball is to relaunch Amplify, everything else has to align with that. Update content, rebuild parts of it, have meetings with my team – all of it centered around that goal. Clearing your mental deck and putting your core goal in the middle helps you realign and take focused action.

Realign with Your Core Goal

Once you’ve identified your core goal, break it down into tasks. Whether it’s for the next 30 days, 60 days, or 90 days, defining what you need to do helps in creating a targeted strategy.

I know the online space is noisy and it’s easy to lose focus. But if you come back to your central goal, it anchors your messaging. For instance, when focusing on Amplify 2.0, I align all my content – workshops, posts, everything – to build a confidently bold brand. It keeps everything coherent and aligned with my core mission.

Overcome the Trap of Comparison

Comparison is a sneaky thing. The endless scrolling on social media can mess with your focus and feed into that comparison trap. I’ve found it helpful to set boundaries. Decide if your scrolling is just entertainment (like when my husband watches the news) or if it’s actually disrupting your flow.

There was this intriguing story I heard about a child psychologist in New York. She gave kids an eight-week online detox for what looked like ADHD symptoms, and many of those symptoms vanished. It got me thinking – what about us adults? For those who don’t have ADHD but struggle with focus due to our behaviors, it could be insightful to try similar detoxes.

I tested it out myself by not scrolling in the mornings and just diving straight into work. The result? I felt more focused and relaxed. So, know your behaviours and what affects your ability to concentrate.

Speak to Your Community

Lastly, always come back to who you are serving. Think about that one ideal client – let’s call her Sarah. Create your content for her. What are Sarah's struggles? How can you help her build her personal brand and get the foundations of her business in place?

This reconnects you with your mission and serves as a great way to cut through all the noise and comparison. Speak directly to Sarah, address her needs, and you’ll find your content not only becomes more focused but also more impactful.

Always Come Back to Your Core

Remember, these strategies aren’t a one-off thing. Anytime you feel overwhelmed, you can revisit this framework. Clear your mental whiteboard, refocus on your core goal, and cut out the noise.
