Welcome to the brand builders love podcast. I'm your host Chadwick certified business and mindset coach, author and speaker Each week, we'll be talking about simple but powerful business and mindset strategies that will help you build a lean, clean and profitable business. So you can learn to get out of your own way and pay yourself more more. Forget average, it's time to level up. Hey, you welcome back to the podcast. awesome to have you here. Today, I wanted to talk about something I've had a conversation with a couple of my clients about, and that's around, building confidence in anything. And I think that we feel like it's this hard earned thing that we have to do, it takes a lot of personal work. You know, and I'm not saying it doesn't, but I want to share with you, I guess, an easy way that I think about building confidence. And it just makes it a lot simpler in my own mind, as to how I go about doing it, and what I need to do in order to build confidence. And so that's what I wanted to talk to you about today. I think that we're all looking to become confident in different areas of our life and business. And so this is something that I think relates to just about every person that I recently wrote an Instagram post on this too. And so I obviously wanted to share it with you here on the podcast. But at the end of the day understanding where confidence comes from, is the main thing that you need to know. And in its simplest equation and form. Confidence comes from repetition. We're going to call it reps. Yeah. So when you're in the gym, and you do reps, that's exactly what confidence is. The first time you pick up a weight, the first time you do anything, it's going to feel heavy, you're going to feel awkward, you're not going to have your form, as in the best way of lifting that particular barbell or whatever it is that you're doing, you're going to need to learn how to do it, you're also going to start with a lightweight, you're going to start with something small, and then you're going to continue to build up and as your muscle grows, as your confidence grows, you will be able to do bigger and better things. So that is what we're going to be talking about today. But there's a few things that I think we can work through so that if you're sitting there going, okay, Suze, I want to get really confident to be a speaker or to create a digital program, or to build my personal brand, or grow my business, then these are the things I want you to think about. The first thing is having a really clear intention. So like I just said to you, Suze, I want to get confident in becoming a speaker, creating reels, speaking online, whatever it is, just pick one thing, let's start with one thing, have a really clear intention, I want to get really confident with speaking on a stage. So if we take the analogy of being in a gym, and we're going to start with lightweight, and I've never spoken before, never done anything before, what is the lightest weight, like the one kilo barbell, or dumbbell, what is the lightest weight that we can do. So if I want to start public speaking, the lightest weight that I could potentially do, would to be record myself on video on my phone on a camera, I'm not even posting it. So that's like the lightest weight. I'm just gonna start recording myself and start speaking, I'm gonna start building the rep here at a one kilo point five kilo dumbbell of just recording myself and starting to speak thinking about what is it that I want to be known for? What is it that I want to speak about? And how am I going to start to create my language the way in which I speak? And then I can always watch myself back and find out like what's working, what's not working? How can I get better at this? And imagine if you did that 10 times, imagine if you did that 20 times, I'm not even talking about posting right now. I'm not even talking about putting it public, because that might be our one kilo. So at our point five kilo, we're recording ourselves, we're starting to get comfortable with speaking, even something like speaking on audio. So maybe it's not even on video, maybe it's on audio, it's like doing something like this. So once you start to do that, and now you're like okay, I feel like I've done enough reps, and I feel really comfortable with that. So what's the next thing so the next thing is that you're going to start posting it so you might start doing stories on Instagram, if that's where you hang out. You might start speaking on reels because that's just 30 seconds. So that really is just like a one click Yellow dumbbells that you can be using. And so the more that you start to do that, it's going to feel super uncomfortable. But I want you to know, this is an equation. This is like, you know, the formula of how to become confident is by increasing your reps, so that it gets heavier and heavier, and more confident, more confidence. So the heaviness of the of the rep, the heaviness of the barbell, if we're using that analogy, is your confidence. I'm not going to walk into a gym and pick up 100 kilos the very first time. So I don't know why when we want to do something, we think we should just be able to dive in the deep end, and it's going to go swimmingly well, and it's all going to work out for us. Like, why would we think that that's going to happen? So with your intention, like map it out, be really clear on, I'm going to start recording myself either audio video not posted, get really comfortable, know what I'm speaking about, pick a topic, pick any topic, whatever the topic is that you want to talk about, start thinking about how you want to talk about it. And if you sit there and you're like, I don't know what to say, then you sit and you write down the top 10 Things that you speak to clients about that you see as problems in the industry that you want to talk about. And then you just start doing it until it becomes easier and easier for you to do it. Then you get on and you do a 32nd reel, a 32nd story, a 62nd story, and you start talking about the things that you want to talk about. The next step might be that you get invited onto somebody else's podcast. So this is not even your own assets. But you might get invited onto somebody else's podcast. And it could just be a 20 minute interview about what it is that you want to talk about. So then it's about starting to put yourself out there, you're starting to feel comfortable, you're like, Yes, I know what I want to talk about. Yes, I know that this is you know how I'm going to move forward with it. Now I'm going to start saying, if you're looking for a podcast guest to talk about how to get confident or how to build a powerful brand, then let me know I would love to talk to you about it. And just start putting yourself out there. And I feel like putting yourself out there is also something that should be intentional, that is going to take reps. So the first thing you might do is you might contact a few friends and say, Hey, I'm really looking to get more experience with speaking. And I want to talk about this particular thing, is that something that you would consider doing is there a forum that we can do that on, maybe we get on an Instagram live together for 15 minutes, and we talk and then you're starting to do it publicly with somebody else in a conversational forum. And that's going to build your confidence to then be in that kind of format of to and fro with somebody. So that might be your intention at that time, the next step is that you might start speaking for longer, you might go live on your own, you might decide to start a podcast, you might just decide that you want to get on five podcasts, where you're starting to have longer conversations, so that you can really start to build and define what your thought leadership is going to be and become known for that. But just knowing and thinking about what rep Am I at how many times have I done this, and always for yourself really thinking about okay, maybe with this particular goal that I have, I need to do 20 reps in order to become confident with something else. It might not take that long. You know, it might take you five goes where you're like, okay, cool. Like this isn't as hard as I thought. And I think that's another thing just to realize and think about is that sometimes, we think that things are going to be a lot harder than what they are. And it takes us a lot less time than what we thought it was going to in order to get confident with it. So things like I don't know, video editing, you could be like, I want to become a really great video editor. And you do it a few times. And you're like this is so fun. I love it. Like I feel really confident with this. Now let me play with different things. But something else might take you a little longer. So I really want you to set that intention, have a really clear intention about the exact outcome that you want. Really look at what repetitions and level of repetitions at a point five dumbbell at a one kilo at a two kilo at a three kilo. When you're at 10 kilos or you're at 20 kilos, then you're now speaking on stages, you're getting paid to speak on stages, you've you've been paid many, many times. It's a revenue stream in your business. So it's like having that clear intention and that goal and understanding the different levels that you might get to that are going to help you to get to different levels of confidence. Because you might get to that first stage and be like okay, I feel confident at this stage.
Let me go to the Next stage, and let me build the reps. And let me build the confidence to get to that stage. Now, with the goal in mind, for the 20 kilos of one day, I'm going to be standing on a stage in front of 1000 people, I'm going to be paid really well for it, it's going to be amazing, I'm going to love it, I'm going to feel confident this is going to be great. So that is like the goal. But you want to map out how you're going to get there. And the great thing about repetition, is that you turn that repetition into a powerful and a profitable skill. At the 20 kilo Mark, you're like, Okay, I've now got the skill, I now feel confident with this. Now I need to think about how am I turning that into either a revenue stream? Or how am I using it to grow my brand? Or how am I using it to build my business? How am I using that skill? And so when we're looking to become confident with something and being really intentional about it, I just want you to think about it in the way of what skill what thing do I want to do? Do I need to learn do I need to get great at in order for me to grow the business that I want. And as I say all the time, there is no one size fits all, everybody's gonna have a different skill that they want to build, everybody is going to have different things that they want to create in their business. And so it's really deciding where you want to get confident. Do you want to become a more confident coach, I actually did a how to convert consults into clients masterclass in my community, yesterday, and it was really about becoming more confident with how you're doing your discovery calls. And as I said to them, and I'll say to you, is that it's because I've done so many discovery calls over the last 10 years that I feel really confident in the way in which I do them in the structure of them in how I convert clients that I think are the right clients for me. And so this can apply to so many different parts of your business, I feel like even looking at managing your money, becoming confident with managing your money. That's something that we work through in VBA is how do you get confident to build your brand, to start to plan your business out to create the right systems to manage your money to market yourself? Well, all of these things are things that require reps. And so when you now have discovered or you've developed that skill, that profitable and powerful skill, and you've done all the reps, that's when confidence comes. So if you're sitting at any point, and you're like, I just don't feel confident to do this. And I've talked about the fact that tick tock for me has been either no like it's a whole other base, it's really taken me a lot of time to become confident on the platform. And for me to show up and beyond the platform. But I just know that if I want to get confident, the only way to do it is to have the reps to show up and do the videos. And to have the 200 views and to suck at it and continue on with it. And I think that that's the other thing is that when it comes to the reps, and what I just said before, it's some things you will breeze through, you'll be like, Ah, so easy. For me Instagram and stories and things like that. Speaking on stages, doing podcasts, video editing, like there are certain things where I'm like, easy peasy, so easy. Love it, they have done it a million times. So easy. But there are always going to be new things coming into the market, whether it's AI, whether it's you getting on a new platform, if you've not been on something like Tic tock before, whatever is going to come soon. You've got to be able to identify do I think this is something? Do I have an intention here? Do I think this is something that I need that I want that I want to start becoming confident in? Okay, if it is, what is my intention? My intention is tic tock. My intention is to post three times a day to get into flow to start growing my audience. And so what are the things that I need to do in order to do that? That's my intention, what is repetitions? Where can I start? And then how do I make it a profitable and powerful skill that I have, so that I can turn around and go, I'm really confident with that. I know how it works, I get it. I've tested it, I've done the reps. I've worked really hard. I've been uncomfortable, and I've made myself become comfortable through the reps that I have done with it. And now I'm confident with it. So if at any time you don't feel confident with something, I just want you to stop and really look at what have I intentionally done? Have I methodically worked through the different levels of reps, the different weights that it will take for me to become confident Because Can I just tell you and this is a belief I have is that once you become confident with something, that's pretty much it, obviously, the market changes. And you might need to learn and grow in different ways. But it doesn't mean that you lose all confidence with the things that you've done the reps in. Because it's like riding a bike, like I've learned how to do this, I know how to do this, I just need to maybe do it in a different way. But I've been through this process before. And I know I can go through this process again. So I think sometimes we feel like confidence is this abstract thing that we're trying to achieve. And I want you to know, it doesn't have to be abstract, I want you to know that there is a formula for becoming confident. And it's about intention, reps, building the skill, and then acknowledging you did it and actually having the evidence that you can do it again, if you've become confident in one thing that you didn't know how to do. And now you are confident in it, I want you to know that you can pretty much do that with anything that you want to build a skill in anything you want to become good at. When I did my mindset coaching, training and certification, that was so foreign to me a lot of the things that I learned, I was like, never heard of this before, never done this before. But we had to do like 60 or 90 hours of practical. And those were the reps, that was me learning how to actually do the work, how to do the work with a client how to get the result with a client. And so when we do those things, then we're like, okay, know how to do it, I can do this, feel confident in it. Let's go, let's do it again. And with some things, you might have to keep up the skill, you might have to continue to use the skill in order to keep the confidence. Because if you're like, Well, I did it three years ago, but I've not touched it since then you might feel a little rusty. But it's not to say that you can't then build the reps again. But it'll take less time this time because you already know what you're doing. So that is something I wanted to share with you today. I just want you to know that competence is possible, and that you can make it happen. And you just have to work out your intention, your levels of reps, acknowledging what you've done, finding the evidence, and then knowing that you did the work to get to where you wanted to go. If you are looking for more help on how to become more competent in your business, then obviously you can come and join us in BBA. And come and let me know. But otherwise, I'll see you soon.
