Suz Chadwick [00:00:40]:
And something that I have been Learning and diving into a lot is messaging and marketing. It's something I'm spending a lot of time really looking at in my own business as well as working with a lot of clients on their messaging and marketing strategies because I actually We think that's where the magic is right now. That is where the big differentiator is. And because there are so many people out in the market, it's really easy for our message just to become what we're calling wallpaper, where it's just the same as everybody else's, using words that are regularly used and also just doing the same marketing that we've been doing. And it's really time to shake things up. I mean, I'm always talking about Shaking things up, but we're talking about how do you infuse more magic into your marketing? How do you stand out right now If you know, in October 2023 and moving into 2024, you've gotta start to get creative and think about how you are gonna do things differently because I think that's the only way to stand out. And I know that it's something that You know, like I said, I'm working on more and really spending more time on because if you can get that right, If you can get your messaging right, if you can get your marketing right, if you can get your visibility right, as in, you know, your ability to communicate that message and share what it is that you have, then that's gonna make a huge difference to your business. I know that we're gonna be really spending a lot more time on that in this live round of the Bold Business Academy because I think that is what is needed.
Suz Chadwick [00:02:22]:
So let's dive into today's podcast episode. Make sure that you're subscribed as well if you haven't subscribed to the podcast and share it with those who you know it would help. But listen. Let's dive into today's episode. Today, we are talking about how to Use more magic into your marketing.
Suz Chadwick [00:02:57]:
And when you say it, you also have to do a shoulder shimmy because I've I've been speaking with so many clients about their marketing strategy and how they're obviously gonna reach their audience and all the rest of it, and I feel like a lot of people feel like it's very hard. Like, how am I gonna market myself? I don't know how to market myself. I don't like marketing myself, Like all of these things that I hear. And when I think about infusing, I think about, you know, it's kind of like when you really you make it that magic deep into your marketing. You make it feel amazing. You make it like, it's gonna be so good. Yeah? I want you to think about I always think about when my mom used to bake, And she used to, like, inject, like, cream into things or she used to inject alcohol into the Christmas pudding or things like that, where It was just it was like seeping through it. It was making it better.
Suz Chadwick [00:03:54]:
It was making it juicy. It was making it Gonna be so amazing. And so what I want you to do is I want you to think about how you infuse more magic into your marketing. And the way that we actually do that is to start thinking about it in a completely different way. I actually want you to think for a moment. If you took the way that you think about marketing and you shifted it to be like, how can I make this more juicy? How can I make it more, like, irresistible? How can I make it so that it's like as if chocolate is dripping off my words? If, like, my audience is just, like, lapping it up, like, they're loving it, this is so fun for them when I share what I have. And so when we want to infuse more magic into our marketing, there's a few things that I think that we can be thinking about And a few things that we can be doing in order for us to love it more and for our audience, our clients, our community to love it more as well. Yeah? It's almost like when somebody starts marketing.
Suz Chadwick [00:05:01]:
And I'm gonna be honest with you. I'm trying to think of who it might be. There's somebody like, I love watching Alex Cattoni, who's a copywriter, she's got the copy posse, I love watching her market because it's, like, so unique and it's juicy and it's fun and it's Creative. And so I want you to think about imagine if when you marketed, your audience were like Like, give me more. Give me more of that. Like, I wanna know more. I'm like, what else are you gonna tell me? What else are you gonna do? Like, imagine if your audience felt like that about you when you marketed whatever it was that you had because You're, like, so juicy and because you've gotten so creative. So the first thing I really wanna talk about when it comes to infusing more magic into your marketing is to get really creative and have fun.
Suz Chadwick [00:05:55]:
I was talking, I was listening to something the other day, and it was something that I shared in the masterclass that I did on Monday, and I'm doing another live masterclass on Thursday. If you haven't come, make sure you come. But it was talking about being wallpaper. And so when we've got things that we use all the time, that we do all the time, it just becomes something that's wallpaper to our audience. It's like They're immune to it. They've seen it a 1000000 times before. It has no impact. They're not really interested in it.
Suz Chadwick [00:06:23]:
And so it's Really asking yourself, how do I take what I've got, and how do I make it more creative? How do I make it more fun? How do I do something that I've never done before? How do I, like, become more playful with it as well so that I love doing it as much as they love seeing it. And I think that what sometimes we just don't sit down and we don't spend the time to think about it. We don't sit Sit down and, like, maybe ask others around us, like, if you've got an inner circle or you've got a community that you're part of. It's kind of like, you know, What have you seen that you've really loved? And this is why I love looking at other people in other industries, people who don't do what I do, And get inspiration from them. Like, I get inspiration. I love the design, world. You know? I come from a branding background, So I love looking at what creatives are doing in different ways. I love seeing what's new and what's coming up.
Suz Chadwick [00:07:21]:
I love watching people on TikTok because, You know, a lot of the stuff that I see is different and new. And so when you're looking to infuse more magic into your marketing, I want you to think about where you're getting your inspiration from. Where are you getting your inspiration from? What are you looking at where you're like, wow. Like, that really captured my attention. That was really different. I really enjoyed watching that, or I really enjoyed listening to that. And make a note of it. Like, really think about so Gram and on TikTok, I save things.
Suz Chadwick [00:07:53]:
So if something catches my attention and I think, wow, I really love that, I go and I save it to my content ideas. So I've got Content ideas folders within TikTok and Instagram, and whenever I see something, I go and save it. And then when I am creating or when I'm doing ads Ads or when I'm thinking of, like, you know, new messaging, things like that, then I will go into my Instagram I'm in TikTok folders, which are content ideas, and I'll go and take a look at those. And it's not about copying them. It's about getting inspiration from it. It's about saying, I really love that. It Caught my attention, and I thought it was really fun. How would I do it in a way that works for me? How would I do it in a way that, like, I would love to do it? So I really want you to think about how you are getting inspiration, whether you're spending time working out How to be more creative with your marketing and have more fun with it.
Suz Chadwick [00:08:48]:
I think the other thing that is really important when we're wanting To infuse more magic into our marketing is to also look at how we're engaging in a real way with our audience. What conversations are we having with our audience? You know, what are we what are we hearing from them and then responding to? And I think one of the things that, you know, I'm doing A lot of work with my clients on at the moment is a lot of their messaging and their marketing because I think that that's a really key area Right now, in business where there the, you know, the market is busy, and so the thing that stands out is your message. The thing that stands out is the thing that you're doing differently. And so I'm spending a lot of time with my clients right now on their marketing and their messaging and really thinking about, well, how are you connecting with your community. How are you getting them to engage more with what you're saying, what you're doing? How many conversations are you having? Are you inviting them to have a conversation? Can they reply to your emails? Are you, like, asking questions? And so when you want to inject more magic into your marketing and into your messaging, then you've gotta think about the message that I'm creating and the content that I'm sharing, am I just speaking at people, or am I inviting them to have a two way conversation? Am I engaging them in what I'm doing? Because I think that the more that you can engage people, the more that they will learn that that's okay for them to do. So I ask questions in my Email subscribers newsletter, and I get responses, which I love. People, like, write back to me and tell me what they're thinking, what they're what they're struggling with. And so they know that they can respond, and then I will respond to them.
Suz Chadwick [00:10:37]:
Part of your marketing and part of your brand building is building trust. And I think, once again, that's talked about a lot, but the question is, how are you doing it? Like, how are you building trust with your audience? I think the only way to build trust is to have a two way dialogue, is to have a two way conversation. Otherwise, you're just like Like, throwing messages at them, throwing things at them, and hoping that it kind of sticks as well. The other thing is how we make our marketing feel good. And I think this is a mindset thing for you as well. Like, if you're thinking that it's hard, if you're thinking that it's yucky, if you're thinking that, Oh, I don't know what to say. Then that's gonna come across. Why? Every day I say it, the energy you put out is the energy you receive.
Suz Chadwick [00:11:23]:
So if you start getting creative and having fun with your marketing and playing and not expecting it to be perfect, not expecting it to be, like you know, Even when you're doing reels or you're videoing or whatever it is, like, it's okay for it not to be perfect. It's okay for you to figure it out as you go. It's okay For it to be a little bit messy because we love to see that authenticity. We love to see that honest reflection of behind the scenes, which is why you'll sometimes see me in a hoodie, and sometimes you'll see me dyeing my hair, and I'll be out on the walk with the dog as well as doing these lives or being on the or doing webinars or whatever else. Like, there's always two sides to the coin, and I think that we build trust and we build engagement with our audience when we're real. And so the question is, what are you sharing? Are you sharing just the stuff that you think that they wanna see, or are you sharing more of you? It doesn't have to be your personal life, but just more of who you are, what it is that you're here to do, how you're here Help them. And I think if you can figure out a way for it to feel fun and good for you, then it'll feel fun and good for your audience as well. So sit down.
Suz Chadwick [00:12:34]:
Like, if you're like, this is something I struggle with, Suz, then I want you to sit down and think about, what do I have fun doing? What are the things that I really enjoy? So for me, the webinars that I do, which are part of my marketing, I actually just really enjoy them. I really love, like, that interaction live. I love seeing people's answers. I love answering questions. I love teaching. And so that for me as a part of my marketing is actually, like, a really fun thing to do because people get to engage with me in real time, Plus it's something that I love, plus it's something that helps me to obviously get more clients. You know? Speaking is another one. So When I'm sitting and I'm recording a reel, I have much more fun than when I'm, like, creating a carousel or text.
Suz Chadwick [00:13:25]:
Yeah? So it's looking at what you enjoy more and then trying to infuse more of what you do into it and thinking about How you can do that and asking yourself, what does magic look like? What would magic look like to you? Even that question could be a really fun one for you Because everybody's idea of what magic is, for me, magic is where you kinda go like, you're surprised and delighted. I saw Warren Buffett talking, about this the other day, and he said the one thing that every business owner should wake up every morning and think about is how do I surprise and delight my clients today? How do I surprise and delight, like, you know, my community today? And he's like, if as a business owner, you can really think about that on a regular basis, like how you surprise and delight your Your customers, he's like, your business will thrive. Like, you will have customers that love coming back to you, that wanna talk about that wanna share what it is that you have with other people because they know that you actually care. They know that You're always thinking about them and coming up with new things. And so I think that when we can start to really shift a lot of our mindset From, I don't wanna market myself to how can I have fun with this today? How can I I surprise and delight my audience and my customers? How can I Inject or infuse some new magic into it? So right now, I'm like, how can we, like, completely shift what we're doing on socials and create something that's new, that captures people's attention, that reengages our audience, that increases the conversation, that helps us to stand out from other people. And just asking yourself those questions, I think, kind of shakes us out of Just doing the same thing over and over and over again. Like, even when I'm in a launch, I'm like, alright. We need to rewrite the Emails.
Suz Chadwick [00:15:26]:
We need to redo the images because we don't want it to be the same as last time. We wanna have something that's different and unique that is gonna capture people's attention and catch their eye as well. So if you feel like you're just like, you know, doing the same thing over and over again, I'm really gonna challenge you Because, you know, right now, the market we know that the market's changed. We know that it we have To do things differently, we have to look at how we stand out, and we are not wallpaper. We are not something that people just glaze on by. And so if we know that that's what we have to do, then we do have to start trying to shift and change the way in which we do things. And it's really interesting because I do think that you can have the same brand look and feel, but have completely different images and have completely different, you know, designs and things like that, but it can still be on brand. So I just wanna say that I think sometimes people feel like, well, I can't change things because that's part of or that's my brand.
Suz Chadwick [00:16:27]:
And I just want you to remember that every brand evolves. You need to evolve in order to keep your customer's Attention. Otherwise, they'll get really bored. We're seeing the same old, same old again and again. So when it comes to infusing more magic into your marketing, number 1, get even have more fun. Number 2, engage and connect in a real way. Ask questions. Get responses.
Suz Chadwick [00:16:49]:
You know, we wanna See marketing that is unique and different, something that you've thought about, where you're like, okay. What can we do to change? What can we do that could Create a new buzz that could kind of jar our audience into not just scrolling by what they've seen before, but engage them in a new way. And what are all the different ways that we can do that as well? How am I doing it on the podcast? How am I doing it here on Instagram? How am I doing it On LinkedIn or YouTube or wherever it is that you're hanging out, how am I doing it on TikTok, and what could that look like as well? So I just really wanna encourage you to think a little bit differently and think, hopefully, in a more positive way about your marketing and have fun with it. Like, what would having fun with it look like? What if you just decided that marketing from now on was gonna be fun because you were gonna get crazy and creative. Yeah. Well, you were just like, okay. Let's play and see what works. I just think that sometimes, like, we don't test enough.
Suz Chadwick [00:17:51]:
We don't test enough what works, and we don't test what could be fun and different. We're just like, oh, well, this is what everybody else is doing, so this is what I should do. This is what is working for somebody else, so maybe I should just do that too. And I just really want you to take inspiration. I'm not saying not to take inspiration. Take inspiration from other people, but then kind of be like, Okay. Well, how would I do it? How would I do this differently? What's my flavor of, you know, infusing magic into my marketing? What's my flavor of new creative images and videos. What's my flavor of what my new amazing message is gonna be, And how do I make it really spicy? That's something else we talked about on the webinar on Monday, which I'm gonna be running on Thursday again, which is all about how to build a bold brand and create a message that magnetizes your audience.
Suz Chadwick [00:18:42]:
It's about not being wallpaper and getting spicy. Yeah. Because at the end of the day, You've either gonna be you've gotta be polarizing to your audience in one way or the other. They're either gonna love you or they're gonna be like, yeah. You're not for me. And I think that we just sit in that middle ground so often, and I want you to think about if I was going to really, Like, really go all out. If I was really gonna say what I wanted to say, if I was really gonna do that creative idea that I've been wanting to do, what would that look like. I just think we've kinda gotta turn the dial up a bit.
Suz Chadwick [00:19:17]:
We've gotta turn the dial up. We've gotta get spicy. We've gotta get, You know, be more unique. We've gotta start thinking differently and start really looking at how am I gonna stand out more. How are you gonna stand out more? And that's something that I'm asking myself all the time because it's hectic out there. It's hectic out there in these online as my friend, Tiff McCarthy, used to say in Clubhouse. And so it's time now for us to start really thinking differently as we start to head into 20
