Do you ever feel like you're not enough or like you're of less value in the world than other people around you?
I hear clients talk about it often and I wanted to share a little pep talk with you today.
No matter where you are in your business and life – you have equal value to others around you
No matter how much money you make – you have equal value to others around you
No matter what you've achieved – you still have equal value to others around you.
Stepping into that belief and thought is so important. If you're always thinking that other people have more value than you, it could stop you from really going after those big goals, dreams and desires because you think you're worthy of them.
You can recognise and celebrate the achievements of others without it taking away from you and your value.
So I hope that plants a seed that will help your confidence grow in 2022.
You are worthy of love, success, respect and you're valued in ways you may not even realise.
I was on a coaching call with a client before Christmas and we were having this conversation about her reaching out to certain people to do a certain type of work with them. And she was saying to me, you know, something, sometimes when I message people, and then like, they come back to me, and I just can't believe they've come back to me, and sometimes I want to email people, but I'm like, oh, like I feel, I feel not enough, I feel not enough, I'd feel like I can't email them. And as we were talking, it was so interesting. I just said to her, I said what you do is amazing. The work you do, the way you show up, the quality of your work, all the rest of it. And it just got me thinking, I think that this is really common and I have been there. So let's just be honest about it, what happens when you don't feel enough.
And we live in a world right now, especially in the entrepreneurial space where if you earn more money, somehow you're better. If you're, if you've been in business for long, for a long time or longer than me or longer than whoever, then we feel like that person's better. You know, if they've got a bigger social following, then that person must be better. And we leave it at the moment in a time where we're looking at other people. It's not just comparison, I mean, obviously it is. But it's not just that. It's about how we see ourselves and the value that we have in this collective space. And the fact that we look at other people, and we just think and we think, we do it in groups as well, is that we look at other people, and we kind of put them up on a pedestal and we idolize them. And I think that that's natural to have people that you admire. But one thing I really want to say is that there's a difference between admiring somebody and feeling like you're not equal to them.
And when I say equal, I mean of equal worth of equal value. Yeah, just because that person has earned more money than you, been around longer than you, or the rest of it doesn't mean that they're worth more than you. And so this year, as we come into 2022, as I'm recording this, I just really want you to start to take a look at areas of your business, where you might be shrinking yourself, where you might be shrinking yourself because you think well, you know, I'm not enough. I'm not good enough. I don't earn enough. I haven't been around long enough. I don't have as many followers as them. And so we decide what we're going to do based on that assessment and that self judgment.
And so my question to you is, what are you not doing because maybe you're feeling like you're not enough in whatever way that that is? Now, the interesting thing is that there is an opportunity here, and I think we've every identification of you know, something that we're going through ourselves, like I always say, I try and be really self aware, I try and be self aware when I'm in resistance mode, when I'm feeling, I'm just I'm not feeling enough, or whatever it is. And usually it's I'm tired, I'm coming to the end of the year, or something else is happening in my life. And so I then kind of project, whatever that other thing that is happening in life that may be hard or difficult or not where I want it to be. I then project that on to myself in my business and in the space that I'm in as well. And so when we do that, then there's an opportunity, there's an opportunity for learning there's an opportunity for realization and shift.
And so if I can see that actually, I do that a lot where I make myself less than others. I shrink myself because I don't feel I'm worthy or I'm equal. And by doing that, I then don't take these steps, I then don't show up in a certain way, I then don't ask the question, Hey, do you want to collaborate? Hey, do you want to do something together? Now, if you ask and somebody says, No, just know that it may have nothing to do with you, it may have to do with their diary, their availability, the fact that what you're asking them to do may not be aligned with what it is that they're focusing on in their business right now. Those sorts of things. And so don't be discouraged by saying no, like, I always go back to 'Daring and Disruptive' Lisa Messenger's book where I think she ended up asking about 88 or 89 businesses to sponsor the collective. And only one said, yes. So she had to go through like 88 rejections before she got the yes, yeah, but you can't give up.
And so I think now is a really good time at any time, anytime is a really good time to take a look at how do I feel within myself? Like, am I feeling confident in myself? Do I feel like I've got the capability, am I seeing my own worth in value? And I think that this is something that is worth actively working on. Because when you actively work on it, it means that it will have a knock on effect to other parts of your business in your life. And I'm excited because I'm going to be creating a new bonus that will go with Brand Builders Academy, around building confidence setting boundaries. And so I think that it's really important for us to start to take a look at how can I start to cultivate my own self worth and value and confidence on a daily basis. So little things like acknowledging, you are super brave, like you started a business, you are very smart, you have worked out a lot of things on your own. And you have been resourceful enough to be able to do that. It's one of the reasons why I use savvy in my brand messaging is because savvy is like being a boss, you figure it out, you've got grit and determination. Yeah, you're not just like sitting back waiting for people to give you stuff. But you are there making it happen as well.
And so acknowledging that to yourself and saying, you know, something, I have got a lot to give here, I have got a lot of worth and value, I know that I can create my own opportunities, I know that I can make these businesses successful. No, it may not be in three months, it may be in three years, but I can make this happen. And really actively, even when you don't feel it, can I just say really actively cultivating that confidence and self worth. On a daily basis, however you want to do it, whether it's through journaling, affirmations, you know, when I get my coffee, I give myself a little pep talk. You know, those sorts of things. A big one I love is I've got a lot of cards around my office as well, which is like million dollar mindset, what is meant for me will come to me I am open to and welcoming all of the abundance available to me and receive it with gratitude every day. Yeah, just a little reminder that you're incredible. Even if you don't feel like it right now, that's literally the card that is sitting next to me think bigger. Every successful brand needs a fearless custodian from one of my favourite books from Troy McKenna, which is called Brand Hustle.
And so really think about how are you going to actively cultivate that for yourself, so that you eliminate and you start to minimize any of the negative talk or the self depreciation that you might be feeling or thinking in your business. And I'm, you know, totally aware, it's not going to happen overnight. But it's about once again, being self aware. And so taking the action, to be able to move yourself forward as well. So I really want you to think about and create a little plan, create a plan for yourself as to what you're thinking now. And what you want to be thinking and how you're going to bridge that gap too. So really start to think about how you can do that. And I think that if you can start to put a practice in place, it'll make such a big difference as well. And so that was just a thought I wanted to share. I just want you to know that you are equal too, just as worthy, just as successful, just as fabulous as all of the people that you look at and you admire, and that I really want us to stop valuing and focusing solely on how much everybody ends. And you know, something I strive, I've got my own financial goals, I'm striving for what it is that I want, and why I want that as well. And being really clear on that, you know, by making this amount of money that I then pay myself, it means that I get to have all these other things in life that I really want. It's bringing me the lifestyle that I want. And so really connecting it to that is so important.
But what I want us to stop doing is taking a look at numbers, whether it's followers, financial, using business, and assuming that everybody has this perfect, amazing business that is so much better than yours. And at the end of the day, whatever success looks like to you, is what you need to go after. And not compare yourself with other people's businesses, and wishing and hoping that you were there already. Because you'll take your own path, and you will get there in your own way as well. And so really just starting to think about how you're going to shift that for yourself, if it's something that you deal with, I think is really worthwhile. And I think it can really change the way that you show up. And also the things that you go after. You know, like, if you feel like, I know that I am bringing my best work to life, I know that I am creating great results for my clients, I know that I am really stretching my brain and thinking about what is good, and what I want to do and who I want to work with and how this is going to be. And so by just knowing that about yourself that you are bringing your best work to life for your clients, and that you are showing up in, you know, your fullness and with what you have. I think that that's gonna really give you confidence as well. Like, I'm not sitting here thinking, Oh, I really hope somebody buys my thing. And I hope that they like it. Because I know that I've put so much time and effort and the best of what I have into Brand Builders Academy and the Amplify Accelerator and in the events and the retreats that we run, like I know that we're like, how can we make this the best we can possibly make it? How can we make this incredible, like a fantastic brand experience? Yeah, how can I just focus on my clients and not focus on what everybody else is doing. But focus on me, my clients what I do, making sure I love it, and that it's fantastic. And then that's what we focus on the most.
And so if you find that you're looking externally a lot, and if you find like you're feeling like not enough or less than, then those are some things to really think about and do. Yeah, create a practice, acknowledge that that's maybe something that you're doing as well and then create a practice of how you're going to counteract that. And then really just focus in on your own business and what you're doing and ask yourself, how could I step up more? How could, what would I do if I didn't have all of these feelings of less than how would I show up? What would I do? How would that feel, and really start to create plans and goals and actions and activities and a mindset around that.
