How can you have more fun in your business? I am all for having more fun. I know that work and business can be really stressful, it can feel like the to-do list is never ending. Creating content can feel really difficult, but I think that if we look at our business in a different way, and approach the work that we're really looking to do, with a lot more joy, and a lot more fun, and a lot more ease, then it becomes something that happens a lot easier.
I talk about playing a big game all the time, and I'm practising what I teach in Brand Builders Academy as well, which is really about creating ease for yourself in the things that you do. Trying not to take things too seriously all the time and just trying things out. So when it came to the podcast, I just decided to record a couple of subscriber audios, I had a play around with it. Was this easy? Was it not? And I found that it was something that I really enjoyed, and I thought, I can record a podcast at any time, anywhere, no matter what's going on, which means that it could be a lot easier for me than creating videos. Although, saying that, I'm literally on my iPhone right now, in my kitchen, it's a sunny day and I thought I obviously wanna have great content to send out to my subscribers and have on my YouTube channel, and on my social medias. So there's no time like the present to just think about what are some of the things that I've been doing lately that have been really great in my business, I've really enjoyed, and that I wanna share with you today.
Thinking about how you can just do things in the moment, I think is a really great way to look at how you create content. Like I said with the podcast, I had a play around, I thought this feels really good for me, so let's give it a go. The other thing that I did last week, is that I decided to do a vlog (check it out here). Basically looking at what have I been doing during the week? Who have I been seeing? What are some tips based on the work that I'm doing at the moment? Every day, I would just shoot really short, sharp videos. Some with tips, some of me getting on a plane heading off to Sydney, and whatever else came to mind because people really love to see behind the scenes. I have got no make-up on in some of those shots, I'm going to the gym, I'm sharing some really personal stuff about the things that I struggle with and how I'm working through those. I think that right now, in business, people really enjoy the reality of what's happening in your day and how you're working through things.
Now, if vlogging is not something that you're looking to do, what I'd really encourage you to do is think about how you can still share some of those behind the scenes. Something like Insta stories is a great way to do that and once again, it's a very in the moment, you don't have to prepare a whole lot for it, and it can make creating content and engaging with your audience so much more fun. So have a think about how you can do that more often, with more ease.
The other thing that I'd say about having more fun in your business is to find the right community for you. Now, obviously I've got the exchanger membership, and our members are so awesome. We had our exchangr dinner last Thursday night, and I actually sent a little message to our members in the group, in our private members group the next day just saying that I thought it was just a really special evening, and I felt really blessed to have these women around me.
You know something, we co-work together, we have dinners together, we ask each other some hard questions in the group and really get the support that we need. The other great thing is, we're off to an art exhibition to the NGV soon as well. So when you find the right community for you, you'll find women that you get along with, that make business so much more fun, that you can just have honest conversations with and share in experiences together. I think that when we work in the corporate world, we have these people around us but when you start your own business it can be hard because potentially your friends are not in business, they really understand what's going on and so to find the right community for you is super, super important to not only feeling supported but also to having more fun.
So, what are the take aways today?
Try things out. See what works for you. Get a feel for it. Don't put so much pressure on yourself that what you try out has to be set in concrete. At the end of the day I'm gonna give the podcast a go, I've already recorded a whole lot of episodes and I'm really enjoying it, but if after six months or a year, that's not the right thing for me, then that's okay as well. I'm trying vlogging, just to have a bit more fun with what I'm doing and like I said, finding the right community for you, and like this video, taking the opportunity when your in the moment. My hair is blow dried today, I've got some lippy on, so why not take the opportunity to do this video? So try not to make everything perfect. Try not to always have everything planned but see what works for you and what can really feel a lot more fun when it comes to the things that you do in your business.
