How To Build Momentum in Your Business

By The Connection Exchange, Suzanne Chadwick

So let's talk about building momentum in your business. This is a concept that a lot of people struggle with when starting out a business or even when you have been in business for a while. In all businesses there are fits and spurts. So knowing what to do, in order to build momentum in your business is important, and here are some quick tips.

1) Identify your Uniqueness –

Do you actually know what differentiates you within the marketplace and why would people come to you? This uniqueness helps build momentum, by attracting clients who are looking for something different and someone who is not doing the same as everyone else. If you want to stand out then you need to know what you do differently. So find that differentiation and put it out there, and you will find more people will be attracted to you, you will stand out from the crowd and most importantly this uniqueness will help you connect with suitable people. Which brings us to our next tip;

2) Connect with people –

Connect with others in your industry and form relationships. A lot of the time we may stay away from people who do similar things to us, when in fact we learn better when we connect with similar industry contacts. Speaking to your industry contacts not only helps with communication, but gets your name out there. Continual learning and growing your network will help build momentum. Also try not to worry about competition, position yourself as a thought leader and a leader in your industry and people will gravitate towards you. Speaking of gravitating towards people;

3) Surround yourself with amazing people –

Surround yourself with amazing people who lift you up, stretch you to do better things and be better. Make sure you have people around you who are a few steps ahead so that you can learn from them. When you surround yourself with people who are doing amazing things, you will find you up level yourself automatically. Because, you are in a different game! For example; if we were all running a race and doing a sprint, and you were constantly with people who were beating you, YOU WOULD TRAIN AND GO HARDER! Competition propels you to do better and do more, and this energy absolutely rubs off from other people. Take time to assess the people you are surrounding yourself with, do they have a positive impact on your energy? Also remember you will have 5 key people in your life and you need to know what influence they have, and you on them in a Business sense. If you need to change that circle, than do it, go and find people in your industry who share passions and inspirations and you will find yourself ready and raring to go. So now you are raring to go, let's find a way to keep it going;

4) Find a routine –

Find a routine! When you find what works for you then keep doing it. What we find a lot with the clients we coach is that they don't really know what they should be doing on a day to day basis, to consistently grow their business. You need to figure out what routine works for you, and focus on these key activities listed below;

5) Focus on sales and business building activities –

This is such a key component in Business, because if what you're doing isn't bringing you work, building your business or your network then why are you doing it?
Keep note of what activities you are doing, yes you need to be doing the back end and administrative side of your business but that can't be all that you do. Really think about the last week, out of all the things that you did, how many were revenue making? Remember back to when things were good, and learn from yourself and think what was I doing when things were going well in business?

6) Do the things that matter –

Think about what has made you successful before or what other people do to be successful and DO THOSE THINGS! Don't pussy foot around – do things that matter and make a difference.
Really make sure that you are focused on growing your network, community and audience and getting your message out there!
You need to build your personal and business brand, these things really matter because they will help you grow and build up your client base.

7) Go hard or go home –

If you're here to build a business then focus on what it takes to build your business and keep moving forward. Everything we have mentioned has to be a decision you consciously make, to work towards and do what matters.
If you feel these are too much of a struggle, you need to re evaluate why you are in business, but give yourself a talking to and say “Go hard or go home” and make a difference to your business.
