If you're sitting there wondering why things aren't happening as quickly as you'd like in your business, I want to tell you something straight up: the thing that's holding you back probably isn't what you think it is.
For years, I watched clients—brilliant, talented, capable people—sit on the sidelines waiting for their message to be perfectly crafted, their branding to be flawless, their website to be “just right” before they put themselves out there. And you know what? Nothing changed. No clients came. No money was made. No impact was created.
But the moment they stopped waiting and started acting? Everything shifted.
I've been building my business for over a decade now, and I can tell you with absolute certainty: clarity doesn't come from thinking. It comes from doing. You can't plan your way to success. You have to build your way there.
Here's what I've learned: perfectionism isn't strategy. It's self-doubt wearing a fancy outfit.
When someone tells me “I just need to get this message right before I put it out there,” what I'm really hearing is “I don't trust myself.” And I get it—putting your work out there is scary. But here's the truth: there is no perfect message. There's no magical combination of words that'll guarantee your ideal clients come running.
What actually works is this: you say something, you measure the response, you adjust, and you say it again in a slightly different way. Rinse and repeat. That's how you find what lands.
I've put together messages I was absolutely certain would be bangers, posted them, and heard nothing but crickets. I've also said things completely off the cuff, in the flow of working with a client, and they've gone absolutely gangbusters. Sometimes there's no rhyme or reason to it—but there's always a reason to put it out there and find out.
The market is constantly changing. The way language lands shifts. Your audience's needs evolve. The only way to stay relevant and actually move the dial in your business is by staying curious, taking action, and letting the data tell you what works.
Most business owners I work with aren't lacking talent, expertise, or even a decent message. What they're lacking is action. They're doing the busy work—updating the website, tweaking the branding, perfecting the sales page—instead of the work that actually builds a business.
And I'm here to tell you something that might challenge you: you don't need perfect branding to make money. You don't need the ideal website. You don't need everything set up in some beautiful system before your first client can work with you.
I built my first website in WordPress using Divi. I created my own images in Picmonkey. I started a Facebook group and built it to 4,000 people. I ran events. And I did it all without waiting for everything to be perfect first. That's how I got my first clients, and that's how I started generating revenue in my business.
You've got access to free platforms where you can reach millions of people every single day. Instagram, TikTok, LinkedIn, email, YouTube—the tools are there. What's stopping you isn't access. It's usually fear dressed up as perfectionism.
I've narrowed down the four key things that I see make the biggest difference for entrepreneurs who want to move faster and get results without the constant frustration:
Your certainty sells. When you know what you're here to say and what you're here to do, and you've got real conviction behind it, that's what captivates the right clients for you.
But—and this is important—you don't have just one “right way” of saying your message. You've got many. You might need to say it 10 different ways before it truly lands. Different people will connect with different versions of it, and that's exactly how it should be.
Think about it like this: when you share your message consistently, you start to build your brand. When you build your brand, you grow your audience. When you grow your audience, you build trust. And when trust is there, clients follow.
The key is knowing what actually resonates. That's why the action loop matters so much.
Here's what I tell all my clients: stop waiting for it to be perfect and start getting it out there. Every single post, every carousel, every thing you share is a data point.
Did it land? Did your audience really resonate with it? Was there a better way to say it? Which version of your message performed best?
That's your feedback. That's your market research happening in real time.
Most people get stuck in the busy work trap. “Do I need to update my website? Do I need to update my branding? I can't put this out there because it's not perfect yet.” And then nothing happens. No movement. No clients. No revenue.
You can absolutely build a business and generate cash without having all the bells and whistles perfectly in place. Yes, those things are good to have eventually. But they're not prerequisites for getting started.
Here's what you actually need: if someone DMs you and says “I want to work with you,” you need to be able to say yes. That's it. You can invoice them. You can use Calendly to take payment. You can get started immediately. You don't need a fancy funnel or a perfect sales page.
Start small. Practice imperfection even when it feels awkward. Build up from there. Have an offer ready so when opportunity knocks, you're prepared to answer.
Here's something I don't think we talk about enough in business: self-trust isn't about being perfect. It's about keeping the promises you make to yourself.
When you show up regularly and consistently, you're sending a message to your audience: you can rely on me. And more importantly, you're building trust with yourself.
I've been putting out a podcast episode every single week. Since 2017. We're now in a different decade and I can count on one hand how many times I've missed. That consistency has been massive for building my audience because they know: there will be something from Suz every week. I've made that commitment to myself, and I've honoured it.
That's not luck. That's strategy. That's professional practice.
Your business needs these too. The non-negotiables. The things you do come hell or high water because they're part of your strategy for building and growing.
Here's what mine look like:
These aren't things I do when I feel inspired. They're professional practices I've built into my business that directly generate the clients, revenue, and outcomes I want.
So here's your action: decide what your professional practices are going to be. Reverse engineer it from your goals. What do you want to happen? Now, what do you need to do on a regular, non-negotiable basis to make that happen? That's your answer.
If you're not seen, people can't work with you. They can't find you. They can't book you. And I'm going to challenge anyone who thinks visibility isn't important for their business.
There are seven, eight, nine-figure business owners showing up online consistently. If you want to grow your business, build a personal brand, and attract the clients you want, visibility isn't a nice-to-have. It's part of the equation.
Here's how people actually buy in today's world: They might find you on Instagram. Then they discover you've got a podcast. They start binging that. Then they find your YouTube channel. They check out your website. They're seeing you across multiple touchpoints, building trust as they go.
We call this the 7-11-4 rule—it takes seven hours of connection, 11 different touchpoints, and four different pieces of content before someone's really ready to buy.
So ask yourself: if someone found me, could they binge me? Could they easily figure out what I think, how I work, what I believe, and how I can help them? Or would it be really hard for them?
Is it clear what you offer? Is it obvious how you can help them get the transformation or outcomes they want? If the answer's no, then you're missing a big part of your personal brand and business engine.
One more thing whilst I'm on about it: when it comes to your actual messaging, simple works so much better than clever.
I tell my clients this all the time: speak at a 13-year-old comprehension level. I know it sounds strange, but think about it—we're bombarded with thousands and thousands of messages every single day. When someone's scrolling, you've got seconds to capture their attention, communicate what you're about, and let them know whether it's relevant to them.
Clear beats clever. Always.
So call out your ideal client specifically. Tell them exactly who you work with and what you help them with. Make it easy for them to know that you're speaking directly to them. When they see that, their ears perk up. “Oh, that's me. That's what I need.”
And remember: the way you say something impacts how it's received. Your energy is your invitation. So bring yourself—your personality, your voice, your vibe—to everything you share.
I want to be really honest with you: you're probably sitting on gold. Amazing ideas. Amazing wisdom. Amazing insights and experience. But nobody's seeing them because you're waiting for them to be perfect.
That's what we're shifting today.
You don't need to have everything figured out. You don't need the perfect setup. You don't need to know exactly how it's all going to work before you start.
What you need is action. You need to start sharing your message. You need to test it in different ways and measure the response. You need to show up consistently and build trust—with yourself and your audience. You need to make sure people can actually find you and get to know you.
Do that, and the results will follow.
Stop trying to get it right. Just get it out. That's when you sharpen your message. That's when your brand grows. That's when the clients start coming to you.
