This week I'm in the middle of hiring a new Digital Marketing coorindator into my team and so I thought I would share with you how I go about hiring someone.  With over 20 years recruitment experience it's something that is 2nd nature to me.  I'm sharing 10 top tips on how you can hire a super star into your business.  If you've been holding off on hiring because you're not sure how to, then this one is for you!

1) Have a clear objective for the role.  For me, I want to massively boost my online presence, personal brand and basically double my content so having a digital marketing coordinator who has their finger on the pulse and is tech savvy is going to massively help with this objective.

2) Prepare a Gap Analysis  – Sit and work out all the gaps in your business that they could help you with.  If you're not sure then write down all the things you have to do and then work through that list and work out what you'd like to and can hand over.

3) Think about the type of person you want by your side.  We call it hiring on competency which basically means experience and behaviour. I'm looking for someone super proactive who can suggest what else we could be doing, goes off and learns things on their own and then brings in back to my business and is just super driven then I can teach people like that the skills I want them to have, but you can't teach attitude.

4) interview Prep.  Don't be casual about how you hire.  This is your business and your team.  You're letting them hold your biz baby so make sure you feel you can trust them. Prepare the questions you want to ask and then ask each person the same question. You don't have to be boring and robotic when you do this but it just allows you to assess each person against the same criteria.  It also means that once you've spoken to or met with everyone you can go back and reevaluate their answers and really think over it.

5) Ask – “what would you do” question as well as “what have you done”.  Because the market is moving so quickly now – what they did 2 years isn't going to help you now if you need someone who is digitally savvy. Asking them what their strategy would be if you need to achieve X will give you a good idea of how they think, what they know, what they would be willing to do or what they think good looks like

6) Talk money from the start – it's a job so you need to make sure they are in your budget.  Have a budget, know how much you want to pay and how how much you can afford.

7) Give the process the time it needs for you to make the right decision

8) Don't be scared to have a trial period if needed.

9) On boarding – be clear what you need them to do and be prepared to spend time showing them. provide checklists so that they don't need to read your mind.

10) Hire someone who can add to your business, make suggestions and who is great at the things you're not great at or someone who can help you grow in the areas they are focused on in your business.
